Water-Droplet Door by Nanci Stoeffler, 2016

When I first created this painting, I experienced a beautiful encounter with the Lord that I’d like to share with you.

While looking at the painting, I sensed the colors came from one strand of colored rope that was part of a saddle on the back of a camel traveling across a dry desert. I could see the strand of rope begin to unravel and it kept growing and growing until it reached the ground and seemed to be searching for water until the rope found a well.

Then this unraveled strand of colored rope extended down into the well where less and less light existed. I could see the rope reach the bottom of the well and finally touch water. As the rope reached the water, the water was transformed into the yellow center of a daisy. When this happened, light was brought into the depth of the well. As I looked closely at the daisy, I could see into the minuscule water droplets on the flower’s white petals. In these droplets, I could see my reflection. As I move toward one of the reflections, I observed a door standing in front of me. I open this water-droplet door and entered. Upon entering, the pollen from the daisy soaked into me through the water I pass through. While I’m passing through the water, I sensed I had come into a deep chamber of mystery, where I heard a sound that stirred the waters of my own soul. It was the Voice of my Beloved echoing in the vast cavern that exists there. I paused within this in-between-sphere to listen, to hear and to be filled with the awe I was created to enjoy, experience, and consume.

After a long while, I moved on until I had passed completely through this cavern where the water-droplet door had led me into. As I did, I took with me the substances of the eternal gold that I mined in this beautiful place, where I spent time privately drenched in this life-altering oneness with my Living God.

“As a deer pants for flowing streams,

so pants my soul for you, O God.

My soul thirsts for God,

for the living God.

When shall I come and appear before God?”

Psalm 42:1-2, NIV

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”

Revelation 3:20, NIV

“Call to me and I will answer you and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”

Jeremiah 33:3, NIV
